Do you consider yourself a disciple?

Everyone has heard the many stories about Jesus and all the miracles he did, but nothing means more then reading it for yourself and understand what the scriptures mean to you. Lets first go back to what a disciple was. In the time of Jesus, Rabbi's and their disciples lived every waking moment together, the disciple followed their rabbi closely at all times. So think about when you were young child and the times you walked behind someone, did you follow so close you stepped on the back of there shoes. Now image the dusty roads of Israel, what would happen if you followed as closely as disciples did? As the rabbi walked the dust would cover the feet of the disciple following so closely, and it was that dust that was evidence how close the disciple was following their rabbi. A disciple doesn't just want to know what the rabbi knows. A disciple wants to be like the rabbi and wants to learn what the rabbi does. But here is the real question how dusty are my feet? Have I ever thought of Jesus as my rabbi? And have I ever truly consider myself a disciple?

Matthew 14:25-31
During the fourth watch of the night Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. "It's a ghost," they said, and cried out in fear.
But Jesus immediately said to them: "Take courage! It is I. Don't be afraid."
"Lord, if it's you," Peter replied, "tell me to come to you on the water."
"Come," he said.
Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, "Lord, save me!"
Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. "You of little faith," he said, "why did you doubt?"

Now most of the time when pastor's use this passage in the sermon you hear them talk about doubting Jesus. But did Peter really doubt Jesus? Jesus wasn't sinking!!! Why would he doubt Jesus he isn't giving Peter any reason to doubt. Peter doubts himself, he loses faith in himself that he can actually be like his rabbi.
I have so many times been like Peter, and have let my own insecurities get the best of me. I have so many dreams and ambitions but most of the time I don't even have courage to get out of the boat. Don't get me wrong here, faith in Jesus is so important, but have you ever thought about Jesus having faith in us? I mean Jesus has the most faith in us then anyone, just think about it he left everything in the hands of his disciples. I think Jesus has faith that we will follow him closely and be like him. If they're fisherman and Jesus calls them to be his disciples, they are not following another rabbi . And if they are not following another rabbi they're not the best of the best. They didn't make the cut.

1 Corinthians 1:26-29
Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."

It was like a movement of anybodies like all of us, and Jesus called the anybodies, the JV the B team and not good enough. He calls them to be his disciples and they change the course of human history. Are we today as Christan schanging the course of human history? What impact do we truly have?
"May you believe in God, But may you come to see that God BELIEVES in you. May you have faith in Jesus and may you come to see that Jesus has faith you will follow him and can be like him. A person of love and compassion and truth. A person of forgiveness, and peace and grace, joy and hope. And may you be cover in the dust of your rabbi, Jesus. "

First Blog...whoo hoo!

The cross is a major symbol in our Christian faith. We believe that the starting point for Christians is the cross and that Jesus died for us as sinners on the cross. It is stated this “the path of every believer meets and proceeds from the cross. There the price for our sins was completely, wonderfully paid. For each of us, faith's journey begins at the foot of that rugged, ancient symbol of redemption.” The guidelines we follow of that faith are given in the bible, what God has done and his will are adequately stated in scripture. Nonetheless this faith is more that just knowing what the Bible says and living out the Christian lifestyle. This faith we live by is also an experience. An experience of God working in our lives of to forgive and redeem us, beginning with confessing our sin and accept Jesus Christ as our savior. I enter college having all the faith, that my Christian walk will become stronger. My faith journey at 12 had just begun but here and it is on the run way gaining speed and about to take off.

They're telling me they're concerned for the way I am living
That I'll miss it all why would I think that God is that trusting
I can't explain all the words He has spoken to my heart
Why'd I want him more
I don't regret choosing you
And I'm not ashamed
That it's You who holds my heart
You have shown my ever wondering heart what love is
What on earth is more important than to have all of you
